Like
many other communities Whistler Village is striving to adapt and
grow with the needs of "People with Disabilities" and
their Families.
Whistler
Blackcomb Mountains
have been a leader in providing Recreation Opportunities for those
with Disabilities through Support for groups like the Whistle Adaptive
Sports Program and BC Disabled Ski Team as well as insuring that
Accessibility on the Mountains are a key part of all operations.

Whistler
gets "Accessible Public Transit Buses"

Great
News, "21" New Accessible Public Transit Buses have been
delivered to Whistler recently. Making Whistler's Accessibility
for the Mobility Restricted a little less hassle free and for many
others as well.
The
New buses provide Fully Accessible Transportation Service during
non Peak Hours and 85 % Fully Accessible Service during Peak hours
of service.

Map. For Disabled Parking Access Permits, please bring your permit
issued from your place of residence. The RMOW honors out of province
and out of country disabled parking passes. Disabled BC residents

Whistler
Riverside Campground is Whistler's only four season
operation for RV Camping. They also have one Accessible Rustic Cabin
with a Full Roll in Shower.
Full
Service Gas Stations in BC. The closest full service
station to Whistler is located in Sqaumish BC and this is your half
way point to the resort. It is a "Chevon Gas Station"
located at Hwy. 99 and Garibaldi Way. There are however many
stations in Vancouver / BC, please see the complete list in the
above link that has been put together by BC Paraplegic Association.

The
Village Host program has 3 staff and 73 volunteers. As resort
ambassadors, Village Host volunteers help guests with easy directions,
quick answers and friendly advice. We have a booth centrally located
close to the Village Square attended daily from 10:00 am to 4:00
pm. This is a "Free Service" and if you need any assistance
getting around while you are in Whistler or have any questions prior
to your arrival just contact us at the information below. Look for
the Village Host volunteers wearing Red Clothing in the Village

The
New Whistler Public Library completed in 2008 offers
many services to People with Disabilities. Such as Large Print Books,
Adaptive Technology such as a TTY Device to make calls on your own
indoors, Big Key Keyboards, Kurzweil 3000 Optical Character
Recognition (OCR) Software, Read and Write Literacy support software
to help with reading and writing skills. Converts text to speech,
spell checks, assists with sentence construction and vocabulary
and a great Accessible setting located in the Village Area off of
the Village Stroll across from the Delta Village Inn and Suites.

Village Access:
Full
Functioning Public Access TTY Pay Phones.
Great
news for the deaf and hard of hearing visiting or living in Whistler.
TELUS has installed two outdoor TTY Public Access Pay Phones in
Whistler. One is located in the "Breezeway Entrance" to
the Village just under the Archway and off of the Taxi Loop for
easy accessibility (View
Map). Another TTY is located in the Library and at
the IGA Marketplace and we hope more are on their way.
And
another Two TTY Devices at the Top of Whistler and Blackcomb
Mountains.

Whistler
Adaptive Sports Program, WASP is a nonprofit society
that provides Sports & Recreational experiences for people
with Disabilities year round.
WASP
Programs include Learn to Sit-Ski, Snowboard, Hand-Cycling,
Cross Country Sit-Skiing and Nordic Skiing, Trail Riders, Indoor
Climbing, Kayaking, Canoeing and Tennis.
