Like many other communities Whistler Village is striving to adapt and grow with the needs of "People with Disabilities" and their Families.

Whistler Blackcomb Mountains have been a leader in providing Recreation Opportunities for those with Disabilities through Support for groups like the Whistle Adaptive Sports Program and BC Disabled Ski Team as well as insuring that Accessibility on the Mountains are a key part of all operations. Whistler gets "Accessible Public Transit Buses"

Accessible Transportation for Whistler BC

Great News, "21" New Accessible Public Transit Buses have been delivered to Whistler recently. Making Whistler's Accessibility for the Mobility Restricted a little less hassle free and for many others as well.

The New buses provide Fully Accessible Transportation Service during non Peak Hours and 85 % Fully Accessible Service during Peak hours of service.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) is also offering a Taxi Saver Program to help you get around Whistler please contact them for more information. Find your way around the Village with the

Disabled Parking in WhistlerFind Disabled Parking Locations for Whistler on our Accessible Village Map. For Disabled Parking Access Permits, please bring your permit issued from your place of residence. The RMOW honors out of province and out of country disabled parking passes. Disabled BC residents can get parking passes from SPARC BC.

Accessible Van and RV Rentals and Camping in Whistler.

Check out Freedom Accessible Van Rentals in Vancouver, located close to Vancouver International Airport (YVR). Whistler Riverside Campground is Whistler's only four season operation for RV Camping. They also have one Accessible Rustic Cabin with a Full Roll in Shower.

Full Service Gas Stations in BC. The closest full service station to Whistler is located in Sqaumish BC and this is your half way point to the resort. It is a "Chevon Gas Station" located at Hwy. 99 and Garibaldi Way. There are however many stations in Vancouver / BC, please see the complete list in the above link that has been put together by BC Paraplegic Association.

Whistler Village Hosts

The Village Host program has 3 staff and 73 volunteers. As resort ambassadors, Village Host volunteers help guests with easy directions, quick answers and friendly advice. We have a booth centrally located close to the Village Square attended daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. This is a "Free Service" and if you need any assistance getting around while you are in Whistler or have any questions prior to your arrival just contact us at the information below. Whistler Public Library Accesibiility

The New Whistler Public Library completed in 2008 offers many services to People with Disabilities. Such as Large Print Books, Adaptive Technology such as a TTY Device to make calls on your own indoors, Big Key Keyboards, Kurzweil 3000 – Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Software, Read and Write Literacy support software to help with reading and writing skills. Converts text to speech, spell checks, assists with sentence construction and vocabulary and a great Accessible setting located in the Village Area off of the Village Stroll across from the Delta Village Inn and Suites. New Village Access:

TTY Public Access Pay PhonesFull Functioning Public Access TTY Pay Phones.

Great news for the deaf and hard of hearing visiting or living in Whistler. TELUS has installed two outdoor TTY Public Access Pay Phones in Whistler. One is located in the "Breezeway Entrance" to the Village just under the Archway and off of the Taxi Loop for easy accessibility (View Map). Another TTY is located in the Library and at the IGA Marketplace and we hope more are on their way.

And another Two TTY Devices at the Top of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains.

Whistler Adaptive Sports Program WASP

Whistler Adaptive Sports Program, WASP is a nonprofit society that provides Sports & Recreational experiences for people with Disabilities year round.

WASP Programs include Learn to Sit-Ski, Snowboard, Hand-Cycling, Cross Country Sit-Skiing and Nordic Skiing, Trail Riders, Indoor Climbing, Kayaking, Canoeing and Tennis.

The Whistler Blackcomb Mountain (WB) Peak to Peak Gondola is wheelchair accessible during the Summer Months and Winter with a new Sled to transport you to the Blackcomb Lodge at top during the snow season. Accessibility is an important feature of Whistler Blackcomb’s landmark project and Canada’s newest tourism icon. Whistler Blackcomb Mountain Ski and Lift Tickets and Accessibility.

There are no ticket discounts for people with disabilities. However, their accompanying ski "buddy" can receive a free ticket. Ticket collection must be done in person, at any outside Ticket Window location or inside, at any Guest Relations location (open daily from 8-5). Tickets must be collected on a daily basis.

Special Lift Line Priority and Passes for Disabled People

If an individual has a Disabled Skier's Association of BC membership ($40) or has a membership from another province through the Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing area and requires assistance, then they can get a "Buddy Pass" at no charge for that assistant to access Whistler-Blackcomb. The individual pays full price for their lift pass. To become a member of the Disabled Skier's Association of BC, an individual can register online at Disabledskiingbc.com.

Sit-skiers are permitted to use the Ski School lineups without the need of a special pass.

No other disabled person is given priority unless they are in our Ski School or Adaptive program. Guest Relations can produce a priority pass, on special request, to other disabled skiers who's disability makes it extremely difficult to stand in line. This will be assessed on an individual basis. Please see the Guest Relations Senior Host on duty.

The Whistler Village Gondola is the only accessible Lift for Wheel Chair Access from the Village to the top of the Mountains.

Guide dogs
are permitted to access the Whistler Village Gondola and to accompany any disabled person in our restaurants.
