Whistler Village Access for People with Disabilities


Whistler VillageLike many other communities Whistler Village is striving to adapt and grow with the needs of the disabled.

It is a long road but Whistler has made progress and by the time the 2010 Paralympics are under way the Resort should have all it's Transit Buses (WAVE) Wheel Chair Accessible.

Taxi Companies are starting to acquire Wheel Chair accessible Vans. So getting around the Village should not be a big problem.

Hotels and Condo's listed in the
Accessible Accommodations section are acquiring new equipment and modifying rooms to fit all your needs. If your Accommodations are located around the Village you should be fine to move around on your own without public or private transport.

Getting Around Whistler

If you are off the Bus Route and need transportation you can try one of the local TAXI Companies who have Wheel Chair Accessible Vehicles. But don't forget to ask for a Wheel Chair Accessible Cab.

For other routes you can use your BC BUS PASS if you have "Persons with Disability Status" and are a British Columbia Resident.

Taxi Service in Whistler with Accessible Cabs include two at Resort Cabs at 604-938-1515 who also offer Airport Shuttle Service and one at Whistler Taxi Services at (604) 932-3333 or toll free at (800) 203-5322.



Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) Accessibility

Whistler Public LibraryThe New Whistler Public Library completed in 2008 offers many services to People with Disabilities. Such as Large Print Books, Adaptive Technology such as a TTY Device to make calls on your own indoors, Big Key Keyboards, Kurzweil 3000 – Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Software, Read and Write Literacy support software to help with reading and writing skills. Converts text to speech, spell checks, assists with sentence construction and vocabulary and a great Accessible setting located in the Village Area off of the Village Stroll across from the Delta Village Inn and Suites.

The new library will provide a comfortable, accessible base for locals and visitors. A covered parking area will have accessible parking spaces. The adjacent elevator will lead to the library collection, the fireplace reading room, the library plaza and to the Village. An accessible computer workstation and accessible washrooms will be available and the municipality is seeking to add a full function TTY telephone.

The Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) has been busy addressing accessibility and infrastructure for the Resort in other areas. New Signs and Ramps have been added throughout the Village to help you get around. Painted and Grooved Sidewalk Corners to help the Visually Impaired and Blind find their way around the Village have been installed.

The Village Host Program Welcomes You to Whistler!

IHOST The Village Host is a Resort Municipality of Whistler program with 3 staff and 73 volunteers. As resort ambassadors, Village Host volunteers help guests with easy directions, quick answers and friendly advice. We have a booth centrally located close to the Village Square attended daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. If you need any assistance getting around while you are in Whistler or have any questions prior to your arrival, please do not hesitate to contact us at our office phone number below. We also have copies of the Whistler accessibility maps on site. Look for the Village Host volunteers wearing red on the Village Stroll. We are here to help and we hope you have a wonderful stay in Whistler.
